Almost at the same time as the launch of the newest season of the popular television series 'Game Of Thrones', the Greensleeves label is releasing 'Dub Of Thrones', a true dub clash between veteran King Jammy and relative newcomer Alborosie. Unfortunately the resulting album isn't as spectacular as the cover illustration by Greensleeves-illustrator Tony McDermott might suggest. On 'Dub Of Thrones' both King Jammy and Alborosie tackled 6 tracks, among which well-known riddims like Every Tongue Shall Tell ('Dub The Seven Kingdoms', Alborosie), Please Be True ('A Winter Of Dub', King Jammy), Hypocrites ('Lords Of Dub', King Jammy), Ba Ba Boom ('A Dub Of Ice And Fire', King Jammy), Hold The Handle ('Dub Beast', King Jammy) and Black Cinderella (though we should add Alborosie's 'Dub Cinderella' is rather a remix of the original song than an actual dub version). If what they were going for was a test of strength, it might have been more fun to have both gentlemen tackle the same songs/riddims, thus highlighting the differences and/or similarities in both method and approach of the music. What remains is a very solid dub album fans of the genre will definitely enjoy, because after all both Alborosie and King Jammy are skilled tradesmen!
