Yours truly got to know pianist Alex Wilson a few years ago thanks to the Mali Latino project, but he really made name in London's Latin scene. These days Wilson is based in the Swiss city of Zurich and with 'Salsa Veritas', he addresses the salsa-loving dance crowd. The songs on 'Salsa Veritas' have that typical Nuyorican salsa sound made big by the Fania label (merengue song 'Loco Corazon' being the only exception on the album). Sounding most surprising are 'Clumsy Lover', on which bagpiper Wilber Calver makes an appearance, and 'Higher Lover', a cover of a 1980s hit by Steve Winwood (originally sung by Chaka Khan).
