On 'Oyoyoy' Amsterdam Klezmer Band once again serve their meanwhile well-known, but ever catchy blend of klezmer, hip-hop (check out the great 'Vrijdag', celebrating Friday as the ideal day of the week to go for a night on the town ) and jazz ('The Hipster's Life', 'Alec's Ascultare'...), this time alternating between Dutch and Russian. For this new album, with which they're celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Amsterdam based band came up with a nice perk, because when purchasing 'Oyoyoy', in addition to the 13 tracks that make up the album, you'll also find a second disc containing 8 remixes. For those remixes Amsterdam Klezmer Band called on a number of befriended deejays and artists (Skip & Die, KinDread Spirit, Thom Dens, The Burners...) and left them to their creative devices. We were most taken with the dubby Irie Remix of 'Elsie's Tune' by KinDread Spirit and the dubstep influences of the Onrich Remix of 'Friday' by The Burners. Those wondering what the stylized Peacock is doing on the cover of 'Oyoyoy', we can tell that in Yiddish tradition, that animal is known as a bearer of news from distant and imaginary worlds.
