With a reissue on vinyl, Far Out Recordings celebrates the tenth anniversary of Arthur Verocai's masterpiece 'Encore'. The story of 'Encore' started when Far Out-boss Joe Davis by accident stumbled on Arthur's self-titled 1972 debut album in a dusty record store in Rio. At the time of its release, critics panned 'Arthur Verocai', and soon afterwards both the album and the artist disappeared into obscurity. Wrongly so as it turns out, because Verocai created his own unique sound in which he blended Brazilian influences with American soul and cinematographic elements. Many years later, Davis played the album, which had become one of his all-time favorites, to producer-duo Mark 'Troubleman' Pritchard and Dave Brinkworth, and soon the trio began brainstorming about a possible successor. Pritchard and Brinkworth travelled to Brazil to track down Arthur, and after managing to convince him, spared no expense to include as many of the musicians who were working at the time to Verocai's debut (Benjamin Silva, Paulinho, Bigorna...). As icing on the cake, the three members of Azymuth were also convinced to take part in the project, and the end result was 'Encore', a modern Brazilian classic full of delicious samba-soul and cinematographic soundscapes.
