In the tangle of different releases and re-releases and dubs, reggae can sometimes become a complicated matter, something that is certainly true for this Barrington Levy release. 'Shaolin Temple' is actually a reissue of Levy's debut album containing early hits like 'Bounty Hunter' and 'Shine Eye Girl'. It was also under those two titles that the album was released in the US and the United Kingdom respectively (each time with a slightly different track list, mix and sound). 'Shaolin Temple', originally released on Junjo Lawes' and Linval Thompson's Jah Guidance label, was destined for the Jamaican market and sounds remarkably more rugged and roots than the international versions. This is vintage Barrington Levy and almost every track is a classic, yet it are the three in mighty dubs ending 12-inch versions, added as bonus tracks, which will really give you goose bumps.
