Black Omolo was born in Kenya but has been living in Rotterdam in The Netherlands since the age of six. After 'Love Your Life', her 10 track debut EP from 2013, the singer now returns with 'Roots N Dub'. Don't be mistaken though, this is not a classic showcase album with 5 vocal cuts and as many dubs, Omolo rather opted rather to order the tracks neatly according to sub-genre. On the first disc you'll find 5 new roots tracks, but on the second disc the EP switches into a slightly heavier gear for 5 more dub-flavored tunes. In the first category we were most taken with 'Breaking Down Barriers', a combination Omolo recorded with Exile Di Brave and Kazam Davis during her first trip to Jamaica back in 2015, but there's also 'Woman Of Creation', an ode to womanhood and a duet with Warrior King, and for 'My Love', a version over the Consequence riddim, Omolo even goes lovers. Where the last five tracks on the EP were concerned, it were the two ganja tunes that caught our attention: 'Talawah', but even more, closing track 'Steamers', a production by Grenoble based Valentin Michon aka Natural Tribulation. Rock-solid EP with a title guaranteeing its content!
