Just when you think you really know all reggae labels out there, a new one pops up somewhere. As its name implies, Bristol Archive Records focuses on reissuing material by bands and artists from the Bristol reggae scene of the nineteen seventies and eighties. Putting reggae and Bristol in the same sentence almost inevitably leads to Black Roots. With 'The Reggae Singles Anthology' Bristol Archive Records already released a compilation of the band's early work and now there's 'All Day All Night', an album for which Black Roots joined hands with Mad Professor resulting in a farewell to the heavier roots sound from their early days. In its place came a more poppy sound reminiscent of that of other British reggae bands from the era like Steel Pulse or Aswad. For those who, like yours truly, have a fondness for the UK roots sound (definitely check the great 'Pin In The Ocean'), 'All Day All Night' is a finger-licking good album and to give this reissue that little bit extra, Bristol Archive Records added five dub versions and a 12 inch mix of the aforementioned 'Pin In The Ocean' to the original track list. Essential listening!
