Two years after the excellent 'World Citizen', Black Slate returns with 'Peaceful Demonstration'. With songs like 'Look Into My Eyes', 'Feel The Love' and 'I Can't Breath', this time the British band seems to have indulged in the better lovers rock. For those looking for something a little more conscious, there's the spiritual 'Amun (See No Evil)', 'Predator', a track over an enjoyable nyahbinghi rhythm and of course title track 'Peaceful Demonstration'. Besides a new, slightly slower, version of their own 'In The City' (originally called 'Sirens In The City'), Black Slate also recorded a number of enjoyable cover versions for 'Peaceful Demonstration'. There's 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go', a reggae version of the classic The Clash smash Black Slate recorded in support of The Specialized Project, a music project for which the Teenage Cancer Trust invited different musicians (besides Black Slate, among others Lynval Golding, The Specials, Susan Cadogan, Dreadzone and Dennis Bovell also participated) to reinterpret a song from The Clash. In addition, the band also recorded a lovers rock version of Bobby Womack's 'Daylight' (in another version also to be found on the 'Midnight' album), and finally there's bonus track 'Thinking Out Loud', once again a lovers rock version, but this time of Ed Sheeran's 2014 world hit (over the same riddim as 'Feel The Love'). Great and varied songs, sweet voices and good music, what more can one ask for?
