Bristol Archive Records' recipe of dusting off forgotten releases of protagonists from Bristol's reggae scene should be familiar by now, and veteran artist Bunny Marrett's 'I'm Free' fits perfectly into their discography. The album was recorded in 1986 and Marrett was backed by The Startled Insects, a well-known Bristol based new wave jazz band. Even though Bunny made a name for himself as reggae artist, he is also a notorious jazz lover, a fact reflected in the songs on 'I'm Free': 'Jazzy Reggae' is a jazzy adaptation of Bob Marley's 'Kinky Reggae' and tracks like 'Farm Digging' and title track 'I'm Free' have the same jazzy vibe. The original album consisted of four tracks and three dub versions, but as a bonus Bristol Archive Records added 'Times Are Getting Harder', a hearty roots tune that was released on the Shoc Wave label as a 12 inch release back in 1981.
