Carioca singer Clara Moreno's third album project for Far Out Recordings is a reinterpretation of 'Samba Esquema Novo', Jorge Ben's classic debut album from 1963. The album opens with an excellent jazzy update of 'Mas Que Nada', best known in the version by Sergio Mendes but originally by Jorge Ben, immediately setting the tone for the rest of the album. Of course it's quite difficult to mess up a classic like 'Samba Esquema Novo', and with the help of producers Paulho Malheiros, Luis Paulo Serafim and Juliana Melo and the vocal assistance of Wilson Simoninha and Jair Oliveira, Moreno does an excellent job, or as the press release puts it: "...a tour of Jorge Ben's Rio, through the eyes of Clara Moreno...".
