For the successor to 2008's superb 'In A Town Called Addis', Nick Page aka Dubulah chose a somewhat different angle, making Dub Colossus' second album sound a lot more varied than its predecessor. The trippy dub tracks are reduced to a minimum ('Dub Will Tear Us Apart', 'Wehgene') and there's a lot of room for the kind of Ethio-jazz Mulatu Astatke made famous. 'Addis Through The Looking Glass' also counts two covers of classic reggae songs: 'Satta Massagana' (originally a tribute by The Abyssinians to the Amharic language and in this Ethiopian version now coming full circle) and 'Uptown Top Ranking', the poppy classic by girls duo Althea & Donna here turned into an ode to Ethiopia ("This is how we do, Ethiopia coming through!"). 'Addis Through The Looking Glass' can no longer draw from the surprise effect of its predecessor, but makes for a rock-solid successor.
