'In A Town Called Addis' finally fills a gap in the Real World catalog, the label offering until now music from just about every region in Africa except Ethiopia, something that became painfully clear when for the soundtrack of 'Long Way Down' in the episode featuring a ride through Ethiopia, Somali music by Maryam Mursal was used. But now there's Dub Colossus, a project for which Nick Page aka Dubulah (ex-Transglobal Underground) worked together with some of the best Ethiopian musicians (Sintayehu 'Mimi' Zenebe, Ethiopia's equivalent of Edith Piaf, saxophonist Feleke Hailu...). The result is a trippy mix between reggae, dub and classic Ethiopian music and Ethio-jazz, and can best be described as a taxi ride on LSD through the streets of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. For yours truly 'In A Town Called Addis' is already one of the albums of 2008. Selamta!
