'Natty Farming', a collaboration between veteran vocalist Earl Sixteen and Spanish all-rounder Roberto Sanchez, can already boast one of the most beautiful album covers of 2014. The cover design is based on a painting by Sil Cunningham, an artist of Argentinian descent currently living in Bristol (those among you who'd like to see more of her work can visit Sil's website: http://silcunninghamautor.blogspot.com). 'Natty Farming' is more than just a visual gem though. As a musical basis for the songs on the album Sanchez used a number of drum recordings Style Scott recorded for Linval Thompson at the legendary Channel One studio in early part of the nineteen eighties. The album is made up in classic showcase style with six vocal tracks and as many dubs. For several of the tracks on 'Natty Farming' Earl sixteen drew lyrical inspiration from existing songs; 'Everybody Bawling' is Sixteen's version of the 1960s hit by The Melodians with the same title and for 'Universal Love' and 'Hot Sun' we even need to venture beyond the borders of the reggae genre, as these songs are interpretations of Blur's 'Tender' and Sly & The Family Stone's 'Hot Fun In The Summertime'. Another highly successful addition to Sanchez' quality catalog!
