After 'First Light', their previous album containing their own work, Easy Star All-Stars return to the format that propelled them to fame: giving a reggae makeover to a well-known album from rock and pop history. After Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon', The Beatles' 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' and Radiohead's 'OK Computer', this time they are tackling Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'. The album celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, making the Easy Star All-Stars reggae version the perfect tribute. The invited guest vocalists (Michael Rose, Mikey General, Luciano, Cas Haley, David Hinds of Steel Pulse) seem to be holding a contest in emulating Michael's voice, but it's Christopher Martin who, with his interpretation of 'The Lady In My Life', comes closest to the original. Mojo Morgan must have talked to his siblings about his rendition of 'The Girl Is Mine', because the song also appeared on their recent 'The Return' EP in a version featuring Gramps and Peetah. 'Easy Star's Trillah' doesn't just offer reggae, because Easy Star All-Stars turned opener 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'' into a funky Afrobeat tune.
