Percussionist Edwin Sanz was born in the Venezuelan capital Caracas and started his career as a dancer with the Afro-Venezuelan company Grupo Madera. In the early two thousands Sanz moved to Europe, first to France and then to Switzerland, where he reinvented himself as a percussionist. In Geneva he became acquainted with Alex Wilson and after having collaborated with him for some of his albums, Edwin's solo debut now also appears on Wilson's label. 'San Agustin', the title of the album, refers to the neighborhood in Caracas where Edwin grew up. The track list mainly contains sturdy salsa tunes with plenty of room for Sanz' percussion work, but also influences from hip-hop and rock (title track 'San Agustin') and a lonely bachata song 'Eso Tierno'.
