With El Juntacadaveres, a project around Argentine saxophonist and bandoneon player Enrique 'Kike' Noviello, Gotan Project now has a Belgian cousin. Both Gotan Project and El Juntacadaveres (the name refers to the novel of the same name by Uruguayan author Juan Carlos Onetti) use the tango as a base, but where Gotan opts for an electro-lounge approach, El Juntacadaveres infuse their music with elements from rock and hip-hop (the raps are provided by Kris 'Scale' Strybos, also an MC with Antwerp St. Andries MC's). In songs like 'Hasta Siempre' (the only cover on the album) and 'Fútbol Argentino' Argentine icons like football and Ché Guevarra are highlighted, adding to the recognizability of El Juntacadaveres' music. Notable collaborations include those with the late Afredo Marcucci, a tango legend who ended up in Belgium and dance-queen Nikkie Van Lierop ('Arrayanes'). Professional and impressive debut album by a band that could outgrow the Belgian borders in no time!
