The concept of "free expression", reminded yours truly of the eponymous weekly class in high school; for many the probably the first (and only) time to "star" on a stage. For Etana it is the title of her new album; a title chosen to underline the fact she's a girl that dares to think out of the box and judging from the songs on 'Free Expressions' we have to admit it's not easy to label her. Roots ('War', 'August Town'), lovers rock ('Heart Broken', 'I Know You Love Me') and r&b ('I Got You', 'Free'), Etana does it all with the same ease. Our favorite track on the album is 'Mocking Bird', a nice grooving roots tune on the Ghetto riddim. Yes, this is an album with a clear female touch, but we dig it!
