It seems somewhat unlikely when listening to 'Karibu' (Swahili for "welcome"), but Famara is actually a Swiss singer of Caucasian descent. Thomas Nikles, who already has a dozen albums to his name, alternately sings in English, French, Swiss German, Swahili and Wolof, earning him the nickname "the blackest man from Switzerland" (Famara’s story is nicely summarized in 'Reggae Made In Switzerland'). This album is a nice example of afro-reggae which fans of the likes of Tiken Jah Fakoly or Alpha Blondy will definitely appreciate.
