Apart from '20', a compilation on vinyl scheduled for release later this year, Romanian brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia also celebrate its twentieth anniversary with a brand new album, and as the title suggests, even the sky is no longer the limit. For 'Onwards To Mars' Fanfare Ciocarlia collaborated, among others, with musician/producer Koby Israelite, who's responsible for the majority of the tracks on the album. In addition to a number of new songs, the track list of 'Onwards To Mars' also contains a few notable covers: there's 'Bunica Bate Toba', a festive version of a song by Moldavian rock band Zdob si Zdub, and the band also recorded a gypsy version of Screamin' Jay Hawkins' 'I Put A Spell On You'. If you've been around as long as Fanfare Ciocarlia it's almost inevitable not to revisit your own past every so often, so for 'Onwards To Mars' the band recorded a new version of the popular 'Mr. Lobaloba' from their 'Baro Biao (World Wide Wedding)' album. 'Fiesta De Negritos' was recorded in Medellin, Colombia, where they joined forces with Puerto Candelaria, resulting in a delicious mix of Eastern European and South American influences. The striking cover illustration of 'Onwards To Mars' is the work of the Los Angeles based Romanian gypsy artist Paul Hitter. Let the summer festivals begin, Fanfare Ciocarla is ready!
