Surinam-Caribbean Netherlands-based septet Fra Fra Sound this year celebrates its 30 year anniversary. The ensemble initially focused on typical Surinamese music genres like kaseko, winti and kawina, but from the 1990s, influences from jazz, blues, soul and gospel were also integrated in their sound. For this anniversary album Fra Fra Sound joined forces with poet Ghasem Batamuntu whose spoken word contributions are reminiscent of the work of Last Poets. Many more years Fra Fra!
