After his previous releases yours truly wasn't really looking forward to a new Gyptian album and 'Hold You' (the title of Gyptian's latest hit single) is once again packed with vocoder-arrangements, mostly over poppy r&b tinted grooves à la Akon. It's not all doom and gloom though, as the "sexy rasta" (as Gyptian is promoted by VP Records) shows signs of good taste on 'Hold You' as well: 'Leave Us Alone' is a successful version on Tenor Saw's 'Golden Hen', 'Beautiful Lady' on the We Must Rebel riddim we still know of Fantan Mojah's 'Murderer' and in 'Where You Belong' we recognized Triston Palmer's 'Entertainment'. Gyptian (a nickname he got as a youth because he always wore t-shirts on his head resembling a Pharaoh) will never become our favorite artist, but seems to be heading in the right direction.
