No mestizo on these two Kasba Music releases for a change, but Catalan ska and reggae from Murcia.

High Times is a ska band from Vila de Gracia, a neighborhood in the heart of Barcelona that was founded in the early 2000s. In ska music one often refers to three important periods in the history of the genre: the original Jamaican ska from the nineteen sixties, the second wave or 2 Tone ska emerging in the UK in the late 1970s and early 1980s and the third wave or ska-revival of the early 1990s. On 'Fins Que Sorti El Sol' (roughly translated "until the sun rises") High Times pays tribute to all these subgenres, smoothly alternating between Catalan and English. On the summery opener 'Fa Calor' ("it's hot"), the seven man strong band is joined by La Troba Kung-Fú's Joan Garriga and Carles Belda (El Belda I El Conjunt Badabadoc) and elsewhere on the album Dr. Calypso's Sergi 'Xeriff' Monlleó also makes an appearance.

Van De Ramah is a project uniting the trio Cometa, Perico and Rafita Selecter. With their debut album, 'Nuestra Arma', the threesome wanted to pay tribute to the various subgenres in the reggae genre. The album opens with 'Van De Ramah II', a tune in the digital dancehall style of the nineteen eighties (produced by Sevillian Vaporetto Sound), but on 'Nuestra Arma' Van De Ramah just as well serves new roots ('No More Fiction'), raggamuffin ('Hey Gyal') and dancehall ('Son', 'Paz'), with plenty of room for the trombone sounds of Josep Blanes. Vocally the only guest on 'Nuestra Arma' is Barcelonan singjay Sr. Wilson who already made an impression with his own 'Good Man Style' album (released by Kasba Music in 2012) and here makes an appearance on 'Danger'. The album was recorded and expertly mixed at Studio La Panchita in Barcelona by Ibon Larruzea aka Chalart58.
