Back in 1995 the Blood and Fire label gave this 1977 masterpiece by Horace Andy a second life. Blood and Fire, however, called it quits and over time, their releases have become more and more difficult to get a hold of. Time for a new re-release 17 North Parade/VP Records must have thought. The track list was left untouched and just like the Blood and Fire release, both the original album and the dub version collected on one disc (or on two separate LP's for the vinyl lovers among you). Unlike Blood and Fire, VP Records opted for the original sleeve artwork though. Andy recorded 'In The Light' when he relocated to the US in the mid-seventies where he met with New York based producer Everton DaSilva. Previous to 'In The Light', Andy's albums had really all been single compilations, but this time he finally wanted to put out a full-fledged long player. In the track list, mainly new songs, with the exception of 'Problems' and 'Fever', which were revamped for the occasion. Horace recorded that last song over a new version of the Mr Bassie riddim, a version that would later also be used by Augustus Pablo for his 'Pablo Meets Mr Bassie'. Although nowadays 'In The Light' is considered one of Andy's classics, it was originally released on DaSilva's lesser known Hungry Town label and it would still take until the mid-1990s for the album finally to get, thanks to Steve Barrow (Blood and Fire), the attention it deserved. Reggae classic!
