Ijahman Levi - Versatile Life (Médiacom/Tree Roots Music)

In recent years Ijahman Levi has divided his time between waging a legal battle for the rights of his songs on the one hand, and the building of a private studio in Christiana (Jamaica), on the other. Musically speaking, for a while there was the proverbial calm before the storm, but now there's 'Versatile Life' on the French Médiacom label, which turns out to be far from a bad album. Ijahman has developed a unique poetic style that won't be to everyone's taste, but for those who are open to something different from the current in your face dancehall vibes, 'Versatile Life' (recorded with the help of musicians like Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Earl 'Bagga' Walker, Dean Fraser and Bongo Herman) offers a nice change. A welcome "comeback" for this gentle roots veteran!
