'Faya' may be yet another example of a musical encounter between an American and an African musician, the chemistry between UK based Joe Driscoll and Guinean kora player Sekou Kouyate cannot be denied. Sekou previously played with Ba Cissoko and the sound of the electronically amplified kora also dominates on 'Faya'. In a steamy stew of funk ('Lady'), hip-hop ('Faya', 'Birnakely', 'Ghetto Many', 'New York'), reggae ('Zion', 'Birnakely') and of course a serious helping of West-African vibes, both gentlemen deliver a gem of an album.
