Yours truly has always regarded Junior Kelly as a bit of an odd one out in the Jamaican music industry. The man seems to steer away from controversy and, judging by the little that appeared about him in recent years, also seems to be a tad media shy (and who can blame him). On a musical level, every few years Kelly delivers another solid album. 'Red Pound' is somewhat reminiscent of 2003's 'Smile', an album with a softer touch interspersed with the odd sturdier tune. Highly recommended on 'Red Pond' are: 'Murderer' on a reworked Heavenless riddim, 'Waan Lef The Ghetto', 'Treacherous Waters', 'How Better Ah Go Come' (Java riddim) or the catchy ska-tune 'Slackness' (both content-wise and rhythmically). Come again Junior!
