Six years after the release of their debut album 'In The 7th Moon, The Chief Turned Into A Swimming Fish And Ate The Head Of His Enemy By Magic' Kasai Allstars finally came up with a successor. The past few years have apparently yielded more than enough new material, because 'Beware The Fetish' has ended up a double album. As the cover photo suggests the likembe (complemented by xylophone and lokole/lokombe or split drum) is once again the principle instrument used and with titles like 'Yangye, The Evil Leopard', 'Thus Spoke The Ancestors' or 'As They Walked Into The Forest On A Sunday, They Encountered Apes Dressed As Humans' ancestral legends from the Kasai region in Congo make up the content of the album. That being said, Kasai Allstars are of course mostly known for their trance inducing music and with 'Beware The Fetish' you can surrender yourself to these vibes for over 100 minutes. The music of Congotronics bands like Konono N°1 and Kasai Allstars was also picked up by Western musicians and that led to the 2011 'Tradi-Mods vs. Rockers' album and the subsequent Congotronics vs. Rockers live tour. From that set the rousing 'The Ploughman/Le Laboureur' was recycled, a worthy closing track for this excellent double album.
