The year has only just started and Pressure Sounds is already presenting what could easily become one of the most interesting compilations of 2017. For 'Time A Go Dread', the English label collected a dozen singles by Lloyd Parks and threw in the dub versions as an added bonus! Parks may be best known as a gifted bassist for such bands as RHT Invincibles, The Professionals, The Upsetters, The Aggrovators, The Revolutionaries, Skin Flesh and Bones and of course his own We The People Band, as a vocalist - first as half of duo The Termites and later solo - he also wrote a handful of hits that now all compiled on 'Time A Go Dread'. Included in the track list, of course, 'Mafia', now a reggae classic and Lloyd's signature tune, and also 'Slaving', the riddim of which was recycled numerous times afterwards; something Lloyd is still disgruntled about: "Some people think that 'Slaving' was produced by Glen Brown, but Glen Brown is a thief and he rob a lot of people. Glen Brown took the clean riddim and put other artists on it. And then later when I go to PRS - Performing Rights Society - I realize Glen Brown just put his name as writer for my song 'Slaving'. But 'Slaving' is my riddim!". But on 'Time a Go Dread' a number of Parks' lesser-known gems can also be found, songs like 'Strike', a song that would brighten up any strike, 'Famine' or even 'Girl In The Morning', a delicious lovers tune. As already stated, 'Time A Go Dread' is a more than excellent compilation; the year is definitely off to a good start!
