With a few new songs, live recordings and remixes, 'Amok', Maanzaad's second album seems to be all-encompassing. For those who still have to get to know this band around singer and songwriter Adriaan Cole, this album might offer the ideal introduction, but it is a somewhat odd choice for a second long player. Cole's Standard Dutch takes a little getting used to, but yours truly eased into it after a while. From the three new songs on 'Amok' we want to highlight 'Schuld Van De Bank' (loosely translated "blame it on the banks"), a song that, in view of recent events, doesn't need much additional explanation. From the remixes the two dubstep tracks done by Seppe De Klerck and Jah Funkey stand out, but if this album proves one thing it's Maanzaad is a strong live band.
