"French dub master meets Mali blues", would be a nice way to summarize Manjul's 'Dub To Mali: Faso Kanou'. Great mix to wake up to on a lazy Sunday morning and for yours truly the discovery of the month. Manjul, who was born in France, moved to the remote island of Réunion at one stage but is now residing in Mali, mixes reggae and dub with authentic Malian instruments like the kora, n'goni or tamari. On 'Beki Miri' and 'Fanga Den' Manjul is joined by Amadou & Mariam (at the moment just about the hottest duo in world music thanks to their recent collaboration with Manu Chao) and Tiken Jah Fakoly (the Ivorian answer to Peter Tosh), two collaborations that don't do the album any harm as you can imagine. Highly recommended!
