With this double compilation album full of duets by the grande dame of Jamaican music, Marcia Griffiths, Donovan Germain has somewhat taken the easy road, but if you have this kind of material at your disposal, you better use it. The two discs on 'Marcia Griffiths And Friends' count thirty-eight songs, but unfortunately that aren't all top tracks. Covers of pop hits like 'I Knew You Were Waiting' (Aretha Franklin & George Michael) or 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' (a song by Jefferson Starship those who were in their teens in the nineteen eighties might still remember from the soundtrack of the teen movie 'Mannequin') are bits of youth sentiment, but corny ballads like 'It's Not Too Late' with Beres Hammond or 'It's Not Funny (Cause I Got A Broken Heart)' with Bunny Rugs are a bridge too far. Most of the hits are on the second disc, but those tracks could already be found on the 1999 'Collector's Series' compilation. Despite it all, 'Marcia Griffiths And Friends' remains a must for fans of Jamaica's leading lady's voice.
