'Horror Zone', the new long player by reggae veteran Max Romeo, is in more than one respect the logical sequel to his legendary 1976 'War Ina Babylon' album. For starters producer Daniel Boyle reunited part of what used to be The Upsetters -Vin Gordon on trombone, Glen DaCosta on sax and Robbie Lyn on keyboards - and he also got illustrator Tony Wright, at the time responsible for the cover of 'War Ina Babylon', on board. Even the great Lee Perry himself makes an appearance, as together with Bregt 'Puraman' Deboever, he takes care of percussion and backing vocals. Most of the drum parts on 'Horror Zone' are also the work of Bregt. In addition to the eight vocal cuts (be sure to check out the anti-tobacco statement 'Cigarett' and delicious closing track 'Give Thanks To Jehovia') the album counts, as the icing on the cake there's a second disc (or LP is you're more inclined to get the vinyl version) featuring the dub counterparts (in which oracle Lee Perry is given a slightly larger vocal role). Where roots releases are concerned it's going to be very hard to top 'Horror Zone' this year. Instant classic!
