With Merger's 'Exiles In A Babylon' Makasound signs for one of the most interesting rereleases of 2009. Once again, this is a fine example of what the sessions in Chinna's yard can lead to. Merger was a project around vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Barry Ford (B.B. King, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin...), during a short stint in Margaret Tatcher's United Kingdom in the early 1980s. The same Barry Ford also made an appearance on the last Inna De Yard production (if you think you recognized 'Rebel', it's probably from 'Earl 'Chinna' Smith & Idrens Volume 2'). The name Merger refers to the fact that the band members came from various parts of the world and their music was a fusion of different styles (even though thirty years on that's hardly noticeable). In a nutshell, this is great reggae for lovers of similar groups from that period like Matumbi, Black Slate or Capital Letters. Since its release in 1977, this album was never reissued. You know what to do!
