'Los Suicidas' ("the suicides"), the new long player by Colombian band Meridian Brothers is the first part of what should eventually become a trilogy, dedicated to and inspired by the work of Colombian pianist and Hammond organist Jaime Llano Gonzalez, who made a name for himself with his ambient-versions of traditional Colombian genres like pasillo, bambuco and, of course, cumbia. The psychedelic tinkling of Meridian Brothers may never quite become our thing, but at least this band provides for quite a different South-American sound.
