Midnite's output, until further notice still the most important exponent of so-called Virgin Islands roots (see also Dezarie, Iba or Bambu Station), is so vast that a new album will probably be ready by the time yours truly has finished writing this review. Benjamin Vaughn alternates between his own productions and collaborative projects and 'Ark A Law' falls into that second category. For this album Midnite collaborated with Lion I, who created a hip-hop based sound for 'Ark A Law'. The rootsy 'What Makes A King'  on the other hand, sounds like the Midnite we've become accustomed to: simple, but effective and sometimes endlessly ongoing and almost hypnotic riddims, with an oracling Vaughn Benjamin doing his thing. The songs on their albums are never as extensive as their live versions, but nothing stops the listener from playing the disc again; something that will only further a better understanding of Benjamin's lyrics. The artwork (also a bit of a Midnite trademark) for both 'Ark A Law' and 'What Makes A King' was once again done by Marcus.
