Nesbeth is one of those Jamaican artists who've been trying to force an international breakthrough for years, but for some reason still haven't succeeded. Perhaps for this singer from Arnett Gardens in Kingston things are about to change. Nesbeth recently signed with UK based Entertainment Soul Records and now presents this five track 'Victory' EP. The EP opens with 'Marijuana', not simply a ganja-tune, but a rock-flavored protest song in which Nesbeth sings: "Some ah sell dem soul just to be the beneficiary of a system and some ah sell dem organs just to earn a few shillings. Some ah sell dem loyalty, the earthright that Jah give dem and some ah sell dem identity, just to feel accepted. And some ah sell dem families and the best friends that dem got. Are they that hungry, are they that in need of feed? I rather sell marijuana, cause it's the only thing we got that's got the power to bring pagans to their knees!". 'Jah Jah Handpick' is a successful upbeat new roots tune and the DJ Frass produced title track, in which Nesbeth talks about his hope to make it in the music world, is of the same order, but perhaps a tad more sturdy. For 'Hundu Lay Lay' Nesbeth drew on the African continent for inspiration and in 'Even Though', the last track on the EP, he looks back on the more difficult moments in his career. A tad strange is the fact that in his home country Jamaica, Nesbeth recently scored a solid hit with 'Ole Gangalee', but that that song is nowhere to be found on this EP. With this 'Victory' EP Nesbeth proves he definitely deserves his place in the current Jamaican reggae scene.
