The fact Omar Perry entitled his third long player 'The Journey', is no more than logical as that title of course refers to Omar's own "life journey", but also to the journey that preceded the release of this album of which the different tracks were recorded over a period of about five years. Finally, it was apparently also a journey through the desert to get this album distributed and for the moment it's only available as a digital download. For 'The Journey' Perry collaborated with a variety of producers (Adrian Sherwood, Mad Professor, Sly & Robbie, Bost & Bim...), resulting in the listener having the occasional impression rather to be listening to a collection of singles than to a coherent album. Our "personal favorite" from the track list is without competition 'Father Of Creation', a song over the well-known Pretty Looks riddim sounding like an instant-classic. About the biggest stinker on the album there can also be little doubt: for r&b tune 'She Is So Nice' Perry clearly put the vocoder in overdrive. 'The Journey' also contains a number of successful duets and this both with well-known and lesser known artists: 'Change Ur Ways' is a combination with Anthony B and the illustrious Davanna Sweet, assisting Omar on 'Rhythm Runs Deep', turns out to be Omar's sister residing in the US.
