Mais Um Discos, until further notice our favorite Brazilian label, this time presents 'Fazenda As Pazes Com O Swing' ("coming to grips with swing"), the second album by Orquestra Imperial, the Rio de Janeiro based band who with 'Carnaval Só No Ano Que Vem', their 2007 debut, revitalized gafieira samba by infusing the genre with salsa, bolero, psychedelics and tropicalia. The line-up of the band is a bit of a who's-who of Rio's most in-demand musicians: bassist Kassin, drummer Domenico Lancellotti and vocalist/percussionist Moreno Veloso (Caetano Veloso's son) got to know each other as members of the so-called + 2 project (the trio each releasing an album under their own name always followed by + 2), vocalist Rodrigo Amarante made a name for himself as a member of Los Hermanos and Little Joy, singer Thalma de Freitas is a well-known soap opera actress in Brazil and percussionist and doyen of the band Wilson das Neves is a living music legend who needs little introduction. Tropical Brazilian vibes as we like them!
