For Palenke Soultribe producer/bassist Juan Diego Borda (also known as Insectosound) and producer/keyboardist Andres 'Popa' Erazo combine electronic music with Afro-Colombian rhythms and melodies. The duo already collaborated on a similar project (Polaina Dinamita) in 2001 and when in 2006 they ran into each other again in Los Angeles, the spark immediately reignited. The name of the band refers to the so-called "palenques", fortified settlements founded by runaway slaves, of which San Basilio de Palenque, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, is the only remaining example in Colombia. Palenke Soultribe's music, evoking memories of bands like Buraka Som Systema, Batida and Bomba Estereo, is clearly aimed at a dance and house loving crowd and not quite our cup of tea, but given the ideal festival setting we can imagine this would guarantee a serious party.
