Just before year end, promising newcomer band Pentateuch still signs for one of the better albums of this year. This Kingston based band was founded in 2009 by five students of the Edna Manley School for Performing Arts. The Pentateuch are the first five books of the Hebrew Bible or Law of Moses (in Jewish faith known as the Torah) which in Christianity make up most of the Old Testament, and it's probably not merely coincidence the band counts five members (Kevor 'Vor' Williams - vocals, Brady 'Jah Bradez' Robinson - drums, Andrew 'Worm' Ayre - bass, Andrade 'Dradi' Bowen - keyboards and Garth 'Duckie' Forester - guitar). Debut effort 'The Genesis' was produced by Paul 'Computer Paul' Henton and sounds like the work of a seasoned bunch of musicians. 'Cancer Survivor' is a gripping story about the fight against cancer (the entire proceeds of the song will go to the Cancer Society of Jamaica) and for 'Struggles Of Africa', a traditional roots tune, Pentateuch recycled the riddim of Rico Rodriguez' 'Africa', but the absolute smash in the track list is 'Time Bomb', a tune that works both because of its catchy lyrics ("Earth is ticking like a time bomb, so easy I'll be till the time has come. Man time ticking like a time bomb, so satta-mass-gana till the time has come...") as its rhythmicallity. Who said that in Jamaica roots reggae is a thing of the past?
