Yours truly wasn't exactly over the moon with 'Extraordinary Rendition', the debut effort by Rupa & The April Fishes. The appropriately named successor 'Este Mundo' sounds a lot more eclectic: bal-musette, ska, reggae, cumbia, they all have their place on this album. It looks like Rupa's circus has arrived in a remote corner of Northern Mexico, witnessed by songs like 'Por La Frontera' ("at the border") and intro 'La Frontera' in which the band dedicates the album to the migrants who have not survived their perilous journey. The result sounds far from bad, but yours truly still feels this kind of music is tailor-made for Americans with an over romanticized image of Paris.
