After 'Studio Cameroon' from 2006, 'Tiger Run' is Sally Nyolo's second album for the Riverboat Records label. The album's title is a nod at Sally's Cameroonian nickname Mó Metame Mezeï Ngone (roughly translated "daughter of the tiger's whiskers") and is inspired by the moment just before a tiger attacks. In addition, Nyolo claims to have an almost shamanic connection with the animal, among other things inspiring her when writing her songs. On 'Tiger Run' Sally alternates between her native Eton language and English and French. The Cameroonian singer is a former member of Zap Mama and echoes from that period can still be heard on this album (opener 'Bigjegui', jazzy title track 'Tiger Run' and most of all 'Welcome', a critique of our Western consumer society straight from the universe of Marie Daulne). For the original 'Le Faiseur De Pluie Par Tous Les Temps', Nyolo collaborated with French soprano Nathalie Leonoff and 'Kilimanjaro' is a wonderful funky ode to Africa's highest peak. Those who love the mix of authentic African elements with Western genres like jazz, pop and funk, as already made popular by Zap Mama back in the day, will love 'Tiger Run'. Sally Nyolo once again proves she no longer needs Marie Daulne by her side.
