In January and February of this year, Mechelen based rapper Shockproof (born Wietse Van Daele) travelled to Colombia to broaden his musical horizons. He collaborated with a number of local artists and that work eventually resulted in this three track EP. Translated from Spanish, 'Petaca', the title of the EP, means "hip flask", and like the liquor from your flask, the Latin American rhythms on this EP warm you up instantly. The three tracks for 'Petaca' were recorded in three different cities (Bogotá, Barranquilla and Cartagena) and each have a very different sound: for opener 'Tu Escencia' Shockproof and Masilva explored electro-cumbia, 'Relajao Pescao' floats on a subdued semi-acoustic salsa-rhythm and closing track 'Suena Candela' featuring L'Xuasma & Alfre2 MC is pure hip-hop. Counting a mere three songs, 'Petaca' is no more than an amuse-bouche, but one that does make one crave for more.
