With 'Libation' Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars want to put their 10th anniversary in the spotlight, but also want to pay their respect to the spirits of their departed musical brothers and pay tribute to Mama Salone (local pet name for Sierra Leone). 'Libation', the title of the album, refers to a ritual pouring of a liquid as an offering to a god or spirit or in memory of those who have died. Although recorded in completely different conditions, with 'Libation' Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars return to the acoustic sound of their debut album, 2006's 'Living Like A Refugee'. For the most part, that debut was still recorded in the refugee camps in Guinea where the members of the band first met, but for 'Libation' they travelled to Vermont, in the US, home of the Cumbancha label which over the years has become a sort of second home for the band members of Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars. For 'Libation' the All Stars tried to unearth Sierra Leone's musical past, in addition to reggae and soukous, also offering genres like highlife, maringa, palm wine, gumbe and baskeda. Many more years guys!
