Yasmine Hamdan currently lives in Paris where she focusses on a solo career, but at the end of the nineteen nineties together with Zeid Hamdan (no relation) the Lebanese singer formed Soapkills, Beirut's first indie band. In their repertoire the duo effortlessly blended their oriental legacy with western genres like dub, trip hop or electro, making Soapkills the Lebanese answer to Massive Attack or Portishead. Soapkills recorded a total of three albums from which Crammed Discs has now selected the best tracks for this 'Best Of' compilation. As the icing on the cake and a treat for the real Soapkills fans out there the label added 'Cheftak (Paris Version)', a never released song that can be found here for the first time. The only thing we kept asking ourselves while listening to this amazing and unique Arab indie band is: "Why in God's name didn't we hear of Soapkills until now?".
