Before Ras Michael and his Sons Of Negus scored a big hit in 1975 with 'None A Jah Jah Children', there was Sons Of Negus Churchical Host. From 1967 onward, Michael was active as a session musician at Studio One, where, together with Jackie Mittoo and The Soul Vendors, he recorded classics like 'Drum Song' and 'Darker Shade Of Black'. Instead of cash, Ras Michael requested to be paid in studio time, which he used to record his own music. Songs like 'Ethiopian National Anthem', 'Take Your Bible And Read It', 'Run Aggressors Run', 'Rejoice' and 'Salvation', all included on this compilation, originally appeared on Michael's own Zion Disc label and were only distributed in minute quantities. It makes 'A Psalm Of Praises To The Most High' into a unique document, capturing the period before Ras Michael also started using electrically amplified instruments. Jah! Rastafari!
