'La Migra' (Spanish slang for the dreaded/feared US immigration police, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE) is already the third long player by Canadian-Cuban band around bassist and producer Michael Owen, but the first album on which The Battle Of Santiago also added vocals. The album opens with 'Aguanileo', a seven minute invocation of Ogun the orisha of warriors in the santeria-religion, and in 'Barasu-Ayo Pt. 1 & 2' another orisha is central, this time Elegua, who symbolizes fate. The Battle Of Santiago stands for an infectious mix of rock ('Pa' Bailar', 'Cimarron'), Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz (instrumentals 'Rumba Libre' and 'Bomba Grande') and dub, and 'La Migra' was entirely recorded in the band's private studio.
