The fact the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is one of the longest-running and most poignant conflicts on this globe, needs no argument, but yours truly finds it truly annoying that just about every Israeli music project presents itself as yet another dove of peace. That's unfortunately also the case for The Idan Raichel Project. Singer-songwriter Idan Raichel performs his songs - as befits a messenger of peace - therefore neatly in Hebrew and Arabic. Unfortunately, the songs on 'Within My Walls' are all too often reminiscent of an Israeli entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. The album also sounds a lot more intimate than predecessor 'The Idan Raichel Project', but 'Within My Walls' does offer the opportunity to discover some new and relatively unknown female talent as Raichel worked with no less than three guest-vocalists: Colombian Marta Gomez, Rwandan-Ugandan Somi and finally Mayra Andrade, a singer with Cape Verdean roots residing in Paris.
