In interviews, klezmer musicians are often asked about the link between Jewish music and the Gypsy traditions of the Romani. The fact there are definite similarities needs little discussion: music ethnologists have determined that both cultures were most intertwined in the former Kingdom of Hungary and Bessarabia, an area in what is now the Republic of Moldova. In the period surrounding World War II a number of geopolitical changes (the holocaust, the rise of communism...), made that the relationships between the klezmorim and the lautari began to dilute and eventually almost disappeared. The Other Europeans, 14 musicians from 8 different countries who gathered for the occasion, now tries to restore this forgotten heritage. 'Splendor' is a double live album that was recorded in Weimar on the occasion of the of the Yiddish Summer Weimar festival in 2009.
