The Ukrainians celebrate their twenty-fifth anniversary in style with the release of this 'Evolutsiya! 40 Best And Rarest 1991-2016'. The repertoire of this English band is sometimes described as Cossack punk, a mix of Ukrainian folklore with elements from Western punk and rock. This double compilation album contains no less than 40 (!) tracks, ranging from their biggest hits over a number of live versions to a series of obscure songs and alternate mixes. Our attention was especially drawn by the "Ukrainian" versions of well-known songs from rock and pop history like 'Ace Of Spades' (Motörhead), 'The Model' and 'Radioactivity' (Kraftwerk), 'The Queen Is Dead' (The Smiths), 'Venus In Furs' (Velvet Underground), 'Anarchy In The UK' (Sex Pistols) or even The Tornados' 'Telstar'. Excellent introduction for those who still have to get to know the band, and a nice overview of what was, for the fans!
